We started The Skin-ny for a simple reason: nobody was telling the truth about expensive skincare. You spend real money on your skin and get marketing back. We thought that was a terrible deal — so we built the briefing we wished existed.

Why we started

The shelves keep getting fuller. The claims keep getting bigger.

The people meant to guide you — the critics, the influencers, the "edits" — are almost always being paid by someone. You spend real money on your skin and get marketing back. We thought that was a terrible deal.

So we built the briefing we wished existed. Every Thursday, five honest minutes on what actually happened in skincare — the launches, the science, the recalls, the regulation, the deals worth knowing — written for a grown-up, with no brand whispering in our ear.

When a £300 cream is a repackage, we say so. When we earn nothing from a link, we tell you that too. Sponsors get clearly-marked slots and nothing else: they never see our copy, never shape our coverage, and never buy their way into an issue they're written about. That's what "no skin in the game" means, and it's the whole point.

Who's behind it

Two halves of one stubbornly independent idea.

Apart, each of us could only build half of this: insider authority with nowhere to go, or a growth machine with nothing trustworthy to send.

She grew up inside the luxury beauty world — quite literally. Her mother owned a chain of high-end hair and beauty salons in Moscow, and she spent her childhood in their chairs, learning the difference between a genuine ritual and an expensive one. She went on to earn a Master's in Luxury Business Management — the formal version of an education she'd been getting since she was small.

Then real life sharpened the question. Three kids, a budget that has to mean something, and a constant hunt for what's actually worth it. Friends kept asking the same things — Is this one a scam? Is the cheaper one really worse? What do I actually need? — and her answers were better than anything online. It seemed wrong to keep it to a group chat.
